Genium X3 voor Chris Richards

70.000 Euros would enable me - Chris Richards - to acquire a C-Leg Genium X3 to replace my recently amputated leg.

This special prosthesis will enable me to continue with my work in and on the water... a job very dear to my heart.

Last year I had to make the most difficult decision of my life. It was huge and painful but very necessary.  After a by-pass operation in Colombia for arteriosclerosis in both legs, on my return to Curaçao I suffered a rupture in the main artery in my groin.  I was then rushed into hospital and was operated on for 6 hours to try and stop the bleeding.  By this time I had lost so much blood and had become so weak that I suffered a coronary arrest.  Fortunately the medics were able to reanimate me straight away and I was airlifted back to Colombia for another operation; but this time there was nothing more they could do to save my leg and there was no other option left but to amputate. 

After 4 weeks in hospital in Colombia I was finally allowed to go back home to Curaçao... my motto is "Never give up" and so I started trying to adjust to my 'new' life and immediately I was confronted with the fact the certain things are just no longer possible...

To enable me to continue with my job as manager at the Curaçao Seaqaurium and my research with the Marine Biological and Archaeological Institute*, which take place on a ship and in a submarine, I will need a special prosthesis.  The work I do is not possible with a basic prosthesis.
