CROWDFUNDING PROJECT – ART EXHIBITIONS IN GHENT

What?

• Art initiative PARCE is constantly searching for funds to organize exhibitions in Ghent, Belgium with artists from Latin-America and European artists.

• Collected funds are used to assist the artists in their travel and organizational costs. 

• In return, artists will organize at least 2-hour educational classes to children in Colombia.

• The goal is to collect 2,000 EUR for organizing each exhibition. 20% of collected funds goes to organization and 80% of the collected funds to travel/accommodation for the artists.

Exhibition projects

• The first upcoming exhibition will take place from 24 July  - 10 August 2020.  The theme revolves around art, especially painting, looked at through the concept of deconstruction. We want to analyse the materials that are the building blocks on which painting exists and has existed for centuries but also the concept of painting itself. What is it and how does it give or create meaning? How complex is the meaning painting generates and can we even be sure of it?

  Since Derrida used the notion of deconstruction in the 1970’s it has influenced and dominated art and literature. This exhibit will focus on what form deconstruction has taken today and what it means for contemporary artists and art.  

Where and when?

The upcoming exhibition will take place in the Sint-Amanduskapel (an old church currently used for temporal exhibitions) in Ghent, Belgium, from 24 July - 10 August 2020. 

How do I make my donation?

PARCE depends on friends (“PARCEROS”) and contributions. It’s a space of collaboration and works of friends. Therefore, our continuity depends on how well our projects develop and on the recourses we can find or collect to support what we are doing: in general or for a specific project.

Details of the project

We - PARCE - believe a lot in our exhibitions which are based on the connections of people from different places. The projects are organized on the basis of collaboration, from our own funds and the funds of the artists. We are trying to collect resourses in order to assist the artists as much as possible in decreasing their expenditures, for example by covering part of their flight tickets, accommodation and additional costs of setting up the exhibitions. In return for receiving these funds, each participating artist has the obligation to give (at least) a 2-hour educational class to children in Colombia. The idea is also that in later exhibitions, we will turn the project around: we will assist European artists to travel and set-up an exhibition in Colombia. 

We are applying to public and private funds and try to come up with various alternatives in order to cover the costs. Your donation would help a lot in making these projects come through. We try to collect 2,000 EUR for organizing each exhibition. Each amount collected before a specific exhibition, will be used entirely for that exhibition, unless it exceeds the amount of 2,000 EUR. Alongside the exhibitions, we will also organize talks and art-related events.

PARCE (meaning “Friend” in Colombian slang) is an initiative for collaboration: providing workplaces for artists, organizing residencies, art projects and exhibitions, talks and any other art related events, in the broadest sense of the word. It is basically making friends and if possible doing projects with those friends. It began in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. It started similar to a gallery until we learned ways to be more of an artist initiative. Therefore, there are no fixed artists in PARCE.
